When Should You Call a Drain Expert?

We understand that drain care and maintenance can be daunting, especially when you can’t see the problem directly- so we’ve put together a list of clues that should prompt you to make a call to drain experts like us.

We understand that drain care and maintenance can be daunting, especially when you can’t see the problem directly- so we’ve put together a list of clues that should prompt you to make a call to drain experts like us. Whether your property is residential or commercial, we’re here to help!

First of all, if you notice your shower or sink emits a (sometimes) stomach-turning odour or is draining more slowly than usual, you should take action before the problem worsens and causes a flood. This can be a symptom of much wider problems, like tree roots encroaching on the pipes under the building, or a collapse in your drainage system. We can investigate this problem for you using drain rods (and, if necessary, a CCTV survey), and get your drains back up to speed. This is also true if traditional DIY methods of unblocking a drain, like natural caustic soda, have been unsuccessful- this usually means that your drainage issue requires expert attention.

Some symptoms of drainage issues can be much more dramatic than blockages or slow drainage, and when these occur, you should call an expert as soon as possible. If your outside pipes collapse, it can cause noticeable sinkholes or ground subsidence, but if the problem is found quickly, sometimes excavation can be avoided. You should call with urgency if you notice physical changes like this, or if your outside drainage is overflowing. These connect your personal or commercial drains to the public sewer, so a backlog can have very unpleasant consequences.

New holes, droppings, or bite marks around the property can also indicate a rat problem, and since they are flexible enough to enter the building through a toilet U-bend, you should definitely call a drainage expert to identify their entry points. (Don’t worry, we cringe at the thought of those furry monsters, too).

If you notice any of these issues, or you would like an expert surveillance of a new commercial or residential property’s drainage, you can contact TWC Drain Care.
