How Does Phosphorus Removal Work?

Phosphorus removal is a wastewater treatment option for properties in ecologically sensitive areas, where strict effluent standards are needed to protect lakes and rivers for future generations.

With chemical dosing to significantly reduce phosphorus content in the effluent (up to 90% removal), the Solido SMART +P SBR provides the best in clean wastewater treatment solutions.

The Solido SMART +P safely isolates phosphorus compounds to ensure treated wastewater never contributes to harmful algae blooms in nearby watercourses, and can cater for 6 to 25 people (PE).

How Does the Treatment Plant Work?

Inside the Solido SMART +P, intermittent aeration cycles break down solids and provide oxygen to microorganisms that feed on organic wastewater pollutants.

After aeration, remaining solids – including microorganisms – sink to the bottom of the tank. Some remain inside the tank to treat the next batch of wastewater and are known as activated sludge. Remaining solids are extracted and returned to the primary treatment tank or a sludge storage tank.

During periods of very high flow, the system can shift from a batch-flow strategy to a continuous-flow strategy with intermittent discharge. This versatility eliminates the need to over design the system to cope with fluctuating flow rates, and it has no effect on treatment performance.

As solids settle on the bottom of the Solido SMART +P, treated wastewater forms at the surface. Polyaluminium chloride is sporadically dosed by a chamber inside the tank to safely treat the water and remove phosphorus.
