It’s the time of year when we spend more time at home, indulge in plenty of delicious treats, and invite friends and family over to enjoy the festivities. With this in mind, the last thing you want is a plumbing problem, so we recently shared some tips on what to do with a blocked toilet, which can come in especially handy during the Christmas period. By looking after your loo, you not only remove the headache and mess that comes with lack of flush and nasty overspills, you also keep your home in top condition both physically and in terms of hygiene. And what with all of that extra food being enjoyed, we also recommend you have a read of these suggestions for eradicating foul odours in your sinks and drains. After all, nothing says Christmas like a warm, fresh peaceful home environment.
However, sometimes these things happen regardless, so if you do find yourself without a working toilet, you can rest assured that the specialists here at TWC Drain Care are available 24/7 every day except Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. This means that if your toilet, sink or shower becomes blocked and you can’t fix it yourself, all you have to do is give us a call and we’ll send an expert round to get things back to normal. With multiple engineers available, no call-out charge, affordable prices and exemplary customer service, we’ll make sure that nothing disrupts your festive season.
There’s something else to bear in mind before you clock off for Chrimbo. If your septic tank needs upgrading in compliance with new regulations, now is very much the time to get it done. The sewage treatment plant upgrade deadline is 1st January 2020, which may not be how you imagined you’d be celebrating the new year but you certainly don’t want to be caught out by the Environment Agency. If you haven’t heard about the required changes, read on to discover vital information.
Introduced under the Environment Agency’s General Binding Rules in 2015, every home in England needs to have a septic tank or small sewage treatment plant that complies with the more environmentally-friendly system stipulated by the EA.
The reason this needs to be done is to ensure that the environment is protected from avoidable pollution, particularly in terms of water quality in waterways and groundwater. The new style of sewage treatment plant is similar to a septic tank, except it contains a system that aerates the bacteria and treats waste water to a far greater degree. If your existing septic tank drains into a waterway (such as a river or canal) without first neutralising harmful substances, you could find yourself facing a very hefty fine. This also applies to any properties that you’re planning to sell, as it’s the current owner’s responsibility to upgrade the system.
If you’re unsure whether your existing septic tank needs upgrading, get in touch with us today and we’ll carry out a free survey. In the event that everything is as it should be, you’ll be pleased to hear that there’s no call-out charge and you can relax safe in the knowledge that nothing needs doing. If it does require an upgrade, we’ll offer a competitive quote and explain what will happen next, keeping disruption to the property as small as possible.
Remember, if you need an emergency drain unblocking or a free septic tank survey, we’re open throughout the festive period except for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. You can call us around the clock and we’ll treat your enquiry as a priority, offering same-day repairs as part of our commitment to quality customer service. Our plumbing specialists cover the whole of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and the North East – don’t delay, call today on 0333 344 1931.
